This week’s overall quantity on offer recorded an increase and totalled a 6.2M/kgs. Low Growns (large leaf teas) continued to witness good demand whilst High & Medium (small leaf teas) encountered a weak market.

This week’s Ex-Estate offerings totalled 1M/kgs. Overall quality of teas were not as useful with teas from the Western region in particular showing a decline in quality. Best Western BOP’s had on offer few select invoices that sold well following special inquiry whilst the majority of the teas together with the brighter below best sorts declined Rs.30-40/- per kg. Corresponding BOPF too followed a similar trend with a selection of teas selling at firm to dearer rates following special inquiry, others declined Rs.20-40/- per kg. Plainer BOP’s in the Western category declined Rs.30-50/- per kg whilst the corresponding BOPF declined Rs.20-30/- per kg. Nuwara Eliyas sold reasonably well following quality. Uva/Udapussellawa BOP’s were mostly Rs.10-20/- per kg lower, although few select Uva invoices gained sharply following special inquiry. Corresponding BOPF were mostly Rs.30-40/- per kg lower. CTC BP1/ PF1’s followed a similar trend and declined Rs.20-30/- per kg for most teas on offer. The feature of sale was the strong demand for liquoring leafy teas that sold at fairly attractive prices ranging from Rs.700-1100/- per kg.

Low Growns comprised of approximately 2.7M/kgs in the Leafy/Tippy catalogues. There was good demand. In the Leafy catalogue better BOP1’s together with a select range of OP1’s were fully firm to dearer. Others were irregular and lower. Better OP/OPA’s too met with good demand and sold around last levels. Others were however easier. At the lower end there was good demand and prices were fully firm to dearer. PEK/PEK1’s too were fully firm to dearer. In the Tippy catalogue too select best FBOP/FF1’s were fully firm to dearer whilst others were barely steady. Here again teas at the lower end were fully firm to dearer. In the Premium catalogue prices were irregular and often lower to last. There was good demand from shippers to CIS, Turkey, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
