AsiaNews | Tuesday October 2, 2018 | Colombo | Miss World 2018 beauty pageant is scheduled to take place in Sanya, China on December 8, this year. 2017 Miss World Indian beauty and actress Manushi Chhillar will crown her successor at the end of the event. This is the 68th edition of the Miss World . Along with Miss Universe, Miss International and Miss Earth, this pageant is one of the big four international beauty pageants—the most coveted beauty titles when it comes to international pageant competitions. The current Miss World Manushi was crowned on 18 November 2017 in Sanya, China.
In March 2018, Miss World President Julia Morley signed the contract with Jiajun Li, President of New Silk Road company, to host once again the Miss World finals in the same destination. 113 beautiful ladies from around the world are contesting in this pageant.
The Miss World Organisation is looking at the possibility of selecting Sri Lanka as the host nation for the Miss World Contest 2020 or 2021. A delegation from the Miss World Organisation met Tourism Minister John Amaratunga and Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, Dehan Seneviratne on Monday to discuss matters pertaining to the event. Thedelegation was headed by Julia Evelyn Morley, the head of Miss World Organisation accompanied by reigning Miss World, Manushi Chhillar, Miss World 2017 and Miss World Brand Ambassador, Stephanie Marie Del Valle Diaz. They also had a an exploration visit in the country.
Manushi Chhillar (born 14 May 1997) is an Indian model and the winner of the Miss World 2017 represented after crowning the Femina Miss India 2017 pageant. Chhillar is the sixth Indian woman to win the Miss World pageant. She was signed up as a brand ambassador for Malabar Gold and Diamonds, one of the world’s largest retail jewellery groups. Chhillar was named as the “Times Most Desirable Woman of India 2017″. She was also featured in a television commercial for one of India’s largest e-commerce brand, Club Factory.
Chhillar representing India at Miss World 2017, she became a semifinalist in the Top Model, People’s Choice, and Multimedia competitions, and was the winner of the Head-to-Head Challenge from Group Nine and co-winner of the Beauty with a Purpose competition. Her Beauty with a Purpose campaign, ‘Project Shakti’ was given government aid of approximately $2.8 million, ensuring free availability of sanitary napkins for all girls in the government schools of Haryana by Chief Minister of the state Manohar Lal Khattar.
